2020 Review - Edmonton Ice District has had many changes, challenges and triumphs over the past few months, with a portion of the Stantec Tower units within the Sky Residences being converted to hotel and/or rental units to help boost interest in the building. COVID 19 also had a  huge influence on the ability for project completion and occupation. However, Edmonton was also awarded as a NHL Bubble Hub City, housing hundreds of NHL players and staff during the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The JW Marriott opened to the public and instantly because the place enjoy, stay, play, and watch a game (when we are allowed to again). Stantec employees now head to Ice District to work, and the Retail section of the 1st phase of development has been moving along nicely. Finally, some steps have also started with Phase 2 of development, with the former Baacarat Casino being torn down on the corner of 101 Street.
