Prime Edmonton Real Estate - Edmonton has made it through one of the mildest winters in awhile and Spring appears to have sprung early, making it a great time to get a jump start on spring cleaning. Let's be honest - it's a necessary evil that most of us do not enjoy taking part in. I like to try to focus on getting out early and doing a little bit at a time to make sure I still have time to enjoy the nicer weather outside as well.
Looking for a game plan to get a jump on spring cleaning? Here are a few tips to help - segmented into a few primary areas:
- House Interior - One of the things I like to do when the weather warms up a bit is to have all of my windows opened up for a few hours and move some much needed fresh air through the home. Having that jolt of outside air does wonders! From there it is an excellent time to take a quick inventory of the winter clothes that will not use next year as well. Donate them to a local charity and clear up the closet easily.
- House Exterior - Anyone else get grossed out with all the dust on the outside of the windows? Cleaning the outsie of the big windows in my house is usually the first thing I do to the outside of the house. Another thing to do is take a quick look in your eavestroughs to make sure that there is not not a buildup of leaves or anything that can obstruct drainage once the rain comes. A quick cleanout will do wonders.
- Yardwork - During the first few days of spring I like to get out and do fairly safe things that will not harm my lawn and/or garden. This includes edging the lawn, sweeping and spraying down the sidewalks of winter buildup that your shoes can track into your newly clean house. If you live in a mature neighborhood like I do, you will also be raking up a lot of leaves, tree needles, and pine cones.
- Work Smarter, Not Harder - Having a hard time with your spring cleaning chores because you don't have the right equipment to do them? I highly suggest you check out various equipment rental places around town, including both big box outlet hardware stores as well as smaller equipment rental places, in order to find the right tool or equipment to rent. I probably rent equipment 10 to 15 times a year for things ranging from pressure washing to power sanding to paint spraying to landscaping, and have found that renting the right tool is an excellent alternative to either buying the tool for full price to use once, or working extra hard instead of smart with the right equipment.
It can be a start and stop process with some of these Spring Cleaning chores because of temporary downturns in weather outside. Doing 15 or 30 minutes of spring cleaning a day in our infamously stubborn Edmonton Springs will help you get through the list much quicker once the warm weather is here to stay!
